History
Bukchon, meaning "northern village," was where royalty and high-ranking officials resided during the Joseon Dynasty. Located east of Gyeongbokgung and west of Changdeokgung, it was a politically significant area. Redeveloped as a hanok residential area in the 1930s, conservation policies since the 2000s have preserved its current appearance.
